Braided Rhino Sculpture

Artists Alex Sibanda and Sthabiso Hadebe blend African cultural symbolism with abstraction. Sibandas sculpture of a rhino is covered in intricate braided textures, evoking the protective hairstyles found in many African cultures. This visual motif also draws a connection between the keratin in the rhinos horn and the hair and nails of humans.

Sthabisos rhythmic patterns painted across the rhinos body add energy and movement. Together, the artists create a powerful message that speaks to both cultural identity and wildlife conservation.
